Should Tecno fans really be excited about the announced Nougat updates?

A part of the Tecno community seems quite excited by some news that came in last week Thursday / Friday about some Tecno phones potentially receiving Android 7 (Nougat) OTA updates. Here are some clippings:

Should the Tecno community really be excited by this announcement?

Straightforward answer? I don’t think so! Acute hunger -they say- would make stone-hard bread taste like sweet soft cake. Tecno -historically speaking- has a terrible habit of pushing out phones and totally abandoning them (update-wise) so you have to buy a new Tecno phone to use higher Android versions.  The first Tecno phone to receive a bug fix OTA update was the Tecno R7 (back in 2014). The only Tecno phone to have received a version update was the Tecno Camon C8 which got a Lollipop to Marshmallow update back in April 2016. Even this single example I’ve cited was delayed several months after the promised date and practically unusable when finally launched (several bugs). It took further bug-fix OTA updates to stabilize. I would know because my elder brother had one. This is of course not factoring in core Marshmallow features that are M.I.A in HIOS (Tecno’s custom UI) like Adoptable Storage.

Infinix -on the other hand- has had enough version update experience under its belt to get me excited about a potential version update, most recent being the Infinix S2 Pro, Hot S (X521) , Zero 4 (X555), Hot 4 (X557), Note 3 & Note 3 Pro (X601) which have already received relatively stable Nougat updates and bug fixes.

This is not intended to spite Tecno (they’ve recorded some dramatic improvements to be fair), just to set those who’re not familiar with Tecno’s history straight, especially the ever growing number of pepper soup Tech. bloggers who will review, praise and rate (5 stars) a device they’ve never even seen let alone touched.

So which Tecno phones will get the Nougat OTA update?

As much as I would love to give you a list of Tecno phones that will get or receive Nougat, I can’t. Only the Tecno Phantom 6 Plus (A9) was mentioned and if Tecno’s past is anything to go by, it’ll be a very few existing (Flagship) Tecno phones that’ll receive the Nougat update then more new models running on Nougat would be pushed into the market. I would however love to be proven wrong this time.
